On 2 Dec 1868, Margaret Bourdette Barton of Demorestville related her memories of her UEL family's settling near Kingston, and later returning to Canada after living for a time in New York State. This story was told by Margaret to her son, Thomas Barton, who wrote down her words. ("The Barton Diaries") may be the oldest materials in our collection. In her memoirs, she recalls the eclipse of 1806 in Kingston. Also called the Tecumseh eclipse. Kingston will be experiencing totality during the upcoming eclipse on 8 April 2024.
